Water can be generated to create incredible force. Waterjet cutting can be used to cut steel and all other types of materials. Water is now an industrial tool that can open new horizons. The key to cutting metal is to keep the water focused to a fine stream. Water is able to cut in a waterjet because the water is funneled at a very high pressure through a small jewel fitted nozzle.

Have you seen a laser cut through metal? Water in essence is turned into a laser by high pressurized generators. The ultra high pressurized system is the key to the cutting system. A powerful pump system generates this intense pressure needed to turn the water into a laser.

The special plunger reciprocates back and forth powered by up to 210 bar of oil pressure. The oil pressure acts on a large viscid which is up to twenty times larger than the water plunger. 210 bar of oil pressure intensifies the water pressure up to and beyond 4,100 bar of oil pressure. At 4,100 bar the water is compressed the water is compressed by about thirteen percent. New technology has released a pump that delivers up to 6,000 bar of water pressure.

Continuous water pressure is assured by the big shock attenuator which is in the high pressure plumbing system which also has flexible tubing where water is pumped into the cutting head where a small jewel is fixed that creates velocity from the pressure. The orifice hole is about the size of a human’s head hair.

The resulting stream travels three times faster than the speed of sound. This super sonic stream is a powerful cutting tool a tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials. To give you an idea of the waterjet power the water pressure in your home is about seventy pounds per square inch or psi. A waterjet operates at 60,000 psi. That means the water is leaving the nozzle at more than 900 miles per hour.

The waterjet is used on soft materials such as foam, paper, food, gasket… For hard materials like steel and even titanium, abrasives are mixed with the water. The abrasives work with the water to cut through hard substances.

Metals of all sorts and glass and fiber reinforced materials can be easily cut with the waterjet. The waterjet accelerates the abrasives mixed with water to form a satin smooth edge and very accurate cut. The water jet provides a cut free from flaw on glass, stone, and materials reinforced with fiber.

Waterjets are used to cut everything from granite counter tops to foam packing. Unlike other metal cutters the waterjet does not get dull and it cannot over heat so this makes it ideal for most industrial cutting applications. There is not need for time consuming pre drilling. Whether performing rough cutting or high speed precision cutting waterjet is the cutting tool for the future.
